Meet Our Directors

Prevention 1st was founded by Phil in 2006, following a 32 year career in the fire service, now in the twilight years of his career, has been joined by Alex and Bleddyn. Alex and Bleddyn, two professionals with decades of experience in safety-critical industries who retrained in the wake of the Grenfell disaster. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to fire safety and health & safety compliance, bridging the gap between the fire industry and your industry:

Phil Sidman

Phil started his fire service career in 1974 at the age of 18 as an operational fire fighter for South Glamorgan Fire Brigade, following a number of promotions retired from the position of group manager within Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue service. Since founding Prevention 1st has managed fire safety on projects such as the construction of Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, The Olympic Park in Stretford, The construction of two underground station ticket halls as part of the London Crossrail project and providing fire consultancy advice during the construction of the new nuclear build at Hinkley Point among countless fire risk assessments and fire strategies for various clients and purpose groups.

Alex Stones

Alex comes from a background in marine engineering, where he served as a qualified Engineering Officer, working on a number of large merchant vessels & superyachts. Alex was responsible for inspection and maintenance of all the propulsion, mechanical, electrical and safety critical equipment including fire alarm & fire suppression systems. He also served as lead fire fighter on a number of the vessels he worked upon. . With firsthand experience managing fire safety in high-risk environments, Alex knows what it takes to ensure operational compliance in even the most challenging situations.

Bleddyn Escott

Bleddyn has a diverse background across the rail, water, and construction sectors, holding roles such as Project Manager, Lead Auditor, and Head of Safety, Environmental, and Quality. His comprehensive understanding of safety compliance in various industries allows Prevention 1st to deliver solutions that are tailored to each client’s unique needs.

We, at Prevention 1st are passionate about fire safety and are dedicated to helping businesses stay compliant in the wake of evolving safety legislation, particularly following the Grenfell disaster.
